Hello, my name is Katherine and I’m a UK composer/artist who performs under the name Syncromental.
I have only been composing music for the last few years but I have writing lyrics and singing since 2019.
My main job is working as an Advanced Practitioner Ultrasonographer so I have a Bsc (Hons) Degree and a Pg Diploma in the medical profession but I have been home schooling as a solo figure on the composing journey, which has proved to be both challenging and rewarding.
I have a unique style in my material wherein I can write dark lyrical content for some songs or create bright and upbeat tracks suitable for reality television, which currently seems to dominate the screening services on all of the TV channels.
I create the music, write the lyrics and record my own vocals, then mix the song and release it independently. Women make up a very small percentage of composers/producers, so I appreciate how difficult it is to make a break through. For example, I’ve noticed that out of the 31 judges for this competition, only a handful are female.
On June 12 2024, I had a song signed and released by Epitome Music Library who are an American Production Library. They loved my dark pop song entitled A Heart Gone Bad and requested to publish it. This was a real feather in my cap as it showed to me that my production quality was of a standard high enough to be signed and released.
It would be amazing to be considered for the Composer Spotlight Award, as making connections seems to be the hardest part of getting my material listened to and used in sync licensing. Social media and having the right contacts plays a huge part in musical success, so to have an opportunity to be accessed by several music libraries who might like what they hear is a great incentive. It is also my Mum’s 87th birthday on the 14 November 2025. Sadly she has advanced vascular dementia and will probably no longer be with us by then, but I’ve looked on this date as a sign that I should apply and make her proud, should I make it to the finals.
Thank you so much for creating this new award, it really is a fantastic idea.
With kindest regards.
Katherine
