I’m a music graduate, qualified music teacher and my musical experiences range from directing orchestras and choirs, playing in rock bands and scoring the music to several indie feature films and short films. I’m now retired from classroom teaching and spend my time writing music, teaching the piano to adults and walking on the North Yorkshire Moors. I’m 64 years old and enjoying the variety!
I now work with several production music publishers and my music has just started to appear on TV across the world. My first production music album was released in May 2023 by Absolute Music Library (‘Mother Earth’).
Last year, I was part of a challenge to write 52 cues in a year (part of the 52cues.com community) and managed to complete 3 more albums as part of that challenge, with the help and critiques of fellow ‘newbie’ composers. These albums were subsequently signed by Beats Bakery, Catapult Music and Absolute Music Library (again) and released in April/May of 2025.
Although, I taught classroom music, I’m not a trained composer but still managed to score a few indie feature films many years ago whilst teaching. During lockdown, I wrote an instrumental album called, ‘Heritage’ which appeared in the ‘English Heritage’ magazine.
I’d like to be considered for the Composer Spotlight Award because I feel like I’m now starting to transition from amateur to professional composer and have a new career ahead of me. I’m also fighting the corner for those of us who started writing production music later in life!
Thanks!
Alan
