I’m Shihua Zhao, a composer, producer, singer, and songwriter. I graduated from Leeds Conservatoire in Music Production.
My journey as a composer began with writing music for a short film, which won some international awards. After that, I was introduced to library music through Quarry Music at Leeds Conservatoire. I’m applying for this award through Quarry Music, who first introduced me to the world of library music. Before that, I mainly worked in hip-hop and R&B. That experience opened the door to a new direction in my career. My track Sichuan Teahouse was featured on a library music album released by Quarry Music and Mediatracks.
I blend my Chinese roots with modern electronic sounds, exploring ways to bring traditional elements into contemporary production. I’m currently working on my first solo library music album with Quarry Music and Mediatracks, focused on East–West cultural fusion — combining traditional Eastern ethnic elements with electronic music, which has become central to my creative identity.
I’d love to be considered for the Composer Spotlight Award to continue growing as a composer, share Eastern culture through music, connect with professionals, and explore more cross-cultural possibilities.
