My journey into music began half of my lifetime ago aged 15 when I bought my first set of decks and started DJing (badly) in my bedroom. That early spark quickly grew into a deep passion. By 22 I felt an overwhelming urge to make music a more central part of my life and began exploring composition through Ableton. I took a one-day crash course to get started, and from there I’ve been entirely self-taught learning through tutorials, experimentation, and lots of happy accidents.
My style sits in the world of contemporary electronic music, often atmospheric, emotive, and cinematic. I gravitate toward mood-led work and my writing process is very intuition-based. While I’m especially drawn to ambient and textural pieces, I also enjoy making work that connects back to my roots in UK underground dance music.
I have been self releasing music under my artist project ‘AK-One’ since 2021, but only in the last two years have I been actively pursuing the idea of working in music professionally. In the last two years I have been primarily focusing on building my skillset and voice. So far I have not had any published work with a library. Earlier this year I composed music for two short fashion reels for Purple Mountain Observatory. I’ve also just completed a set of 12 tracks demonstrating varying styles for use as library music, which I plan to begin pitching to sync libraries soon.
I’m still at the early stages of my composing career, currently balancing it with work as a graphic designer and tattoo artist. My dream is to move into composition full-time, and I feel fully committed to that path. Right now, I’m seeking my first paid projects and actively reaching out to independent filmmakers and collaborators to begin building those relationships.
I’m applying for the Composer Spotlight Award because I’d love the chance to connect more deeply with the community, gain valuable exposure, and platform my work to people I admire, many of whom are affiliated with libraries I look up to. Winning this award would be a huge step forward for me, providing the momentum, visibility, and encouragement I need to move closer to a sustainable career in composition.
Thank you for the opportunity.
