I found myself t the age of 19 playing bass in a covers band in the mid-90s, slap bang during the Britpop era. As we started to find our own sound, I started writing some songs that we would play at gigs around London, as would the vocalist/guitarist. That band folded and I played bass in a couple of other bands around London. In 2005, at the ripe old age of 30 we called it quits. In 2014 I moved to Bristol and barely touched a musical instrument for years. I told myself I was too old and the time had passed.
After years away from playing music (I never stopped listening and appreciating) I realised how much I missed and needed that creative expressive outlet. After a few years of brushing up my guitar and bass playing skills I starting writing songs again as a solo artist and my mental health has much improved as a result. So far, halfway through 2024 I have released four track EP, a single and my latest two track EP is now available on Soundcloud and Bandcamp, with wider release due in August, two weeks before my fiftieth birthday.
Although to many I may not be considered in the early stages of my career, I very much see 2025 as a rebirth, able to write songs with full autonomy and on a new trajectory, shedding my old skin as a has-been bit-part player of the Britpop era.
